$650,000 Single Family
Purpose: New Construction of 25 for sale, single family units
Navajo Partnership for Housing, the Navajo Housing Authority (NHA), and Cholla Construction have partnered to build 25 single family for-sale homes at St. Michaels, AZ as part of the Karigan Estates development. Most citizens of the Navajo Nation would like to own their own home, raise their families and work on their ancestral lands. The driving force behind the development of the Karigan Estates project was to meet this need; the need to provide Navajo families with safe, high quality homes, located in a viable mixed-use master planned community complete with a day care facility and a commercial/office complex. The Section 184 Indian Housing Loan Guarantee program and NHA are providing the permanent financing. Prior to the development of Karigan there were few opportunities for members of the Navajo Nation to pursue homeownership without relocating. “Navajo are starting to come home now,” says Eric Schmieder, Vice President of the Board, Navajo Partnership for Housing.
